Delhi restricts access at 45 Metro stations before CJP protest

Published 9 October 2026

Delhi authorities prepared extensive security restrictions ahead of a Cockroach Janata Party protest scheduled at Jantar Mantar on October 10, including limiting access at 45 Metro stations and imposing prohibitory orders in New Delhi. The reports were published before the demonstration and do not establish whether it took place as planned. Delhi Police said it denied permission for the gathering, citing past violations and a late application. The CJP had called the protest over alleged irregularities in the revision of voter rolls and was seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said entry and exit would be closed at 45 stations from 9 pm on October 9 until 6 pm on October 10. Interchange would remain available at affected stations except New Delhi. Security agencies were to review the situation and issue any necessary updates. The Supreme Court had directed authorities not to suspend Metro services completely. Police said orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were in force in New Delhi, restricting public gatherings.
