Delhi Metro suspends entry at 11 stations ahead of protest

Published 2 October 2026

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation suspended entry and exit at 11 central Delhi stations on October 2 ahead of a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar, while allowing passengers to change trains at several affected stations. The closures were to remain in place until further notice, the corporation said. The affected stations are Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Seva Teerth, Mandi House, Lok Kalyan Marg, INA, Chawri Bazar, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and New Delhi. Interchange remained available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, INA and New Delhi, according to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The restrictions concern access to station entrances and exits; reports said trains continued to operate through the network. The measures came as the All India Students Association, the Aam Aadmi Party and other organisers called for a demonstration over the Election Commission’s functioning and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Organisers demanded accountability from or the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging irregularities and mass voter deletions.
