Delhi orders 24-hour mobile internet suspension ahead of protest

Published 9 October 2026

Delhi authorities have ordered a 24-hour suspension of mobile internet services within a four-kilometre radius of the Janpath-Kartavya Path crossing, ahead of a planned Cockroach Janata Party protest in the capital on October 10. The restriction is scheduled to run from 10 p.m. October 9 to 10 p.m. October 10 and was approved by the Union Home Ministry, according to the order described by police and officials. Delhi Police directed telecom operators to implement the suspension across mobile internet technologies in the specified area. The order does not establish that fixed-line broadband or voice calls will also be interrupted. Reports say mobile internet outside the affected radius will remain available. The planned demonstration is due to take place at Jantar Mantar. The Cockroach Janata Party, or CJP, has called for accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. Some accounts of the planned demands also include his resignation and a rollback of the revision exercise. The allegations are claims by the protesters, not findings established in the order.
