Delhi Police register FIR on ACP Bhagat’s caste-abuse complaint
Delhi Police registered a first information report against journalist Rosy, Gajendra Singh and an unidentified person on October 13, following a complaint by Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Bhagat alleging caste-based remarks, intimidation and obstruction of his duties. The allegations have not been adjudicated, and the case is separate from complaints by women journalists accusing Bhagat of sexual harassment and manhandling during an October 3 protest. The FIR was filed at Parliament Street police station. Bhagat, posted in the Connaught Place subdivision, alleged that Rosy made derogatory remarks about his caste and questioned his appointment as an ACP while referring to his nameplate. He said the remarks were made as he was on duty at Buta Singh Roundabout during a protest against the Election Commission of India. According to Bhagat’s complaint, he and Constable Ravi Dahiya heard the remarks. Bhagat further alleged that, later, Rosy accused him of sexual assault as he helped move a bus carrying detained protesters, and that she and associates repeatedly confronted him, obstructing his work.
