Delhi Police Video Shows Dipke Told of Grandmother’s Death

Published 11 October 2026

Delhi Police released a video on October 11 showing an officer informing Abhijeet Dipke that his grandmother had died and offering help with travel to her funeral. Police said Dipke declined the assistance. Dipke disputed the account, saying officers denied his requests to use his phone and speak with a lawyer. The video was released after Dipke’s family and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) challenged whether he had been told promptly about the death while in custody. Police said the news and the funeral timing were conveyed to him, and that officers offered to arrange travel and help him contact family. A police spokesperson said the assistance was offered on humanitarian grounds. In the footage, an officer asks Dipke about traveling home by plane, train, bus or another mode. Police also said he was offered an opportunity to speak with family. Dipke’s response in the video indicates he could not speak with his father at that moment. The released clip establishes that a conversation took place, but does not resolve what was said or requested outside the recorded exchange.
