Delhi High Court Seeks Replies on Singh’s Assault Petition
The Delhi High Court has sought responses from Delhi Police and Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma on a petition by Sahib Singh seeking protection and an independent investigation into an alleged assault during a road inspection. The court also directed police to file a status report and listed the matter for November 17, 2026. Justice Sachin Datta issued notice after hearing Singh’s plea. Police counsel objected to the petition’s maintainability, according to reports of the hearing. The court has not ruled on the allegations or on whether an independent investigation should be ordered. Singh’s petition concerns an incident he says took place on September 27 in Tilak Nagar, west Delhi, during an inspection of road construction. According to the petition, Singh was recording the proceedings and questioning the quality of the work when Verma allegedly slapped and assaulted him. Singh also alleges that his phone, which contained recordings, was taken and damaged. The petition says Singh submitted a complaint to Vikas Puri police station after the incident.
