Two Latvian men arrested inside RAF Molesworth
Two Latvian men were arrested inside RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire after police found a small breach in the base’s perimeter fence. Counter Terrorism Policing London is leading an investigation into why they were there; police have not established a motive or announced charges. The men, aged 36 and 32 and both living in the United Kingdom, were arrested at about 2 a.m. on October 8, police said. The Ministry of Defence Police and Cambridgeshire Constabulary searched the site after a security patrol, finding the breach and the men inside the base. Police initially arrested them on suspicion of trespass on a prohibited site and criminal damage. They were later further arrested under Section 4 of the National Security Act 2023, on suspicion of entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the United Kingdom. That suspicion describes the alleged offence; it does not establish the men’s intent or prove that they acted for a foreign state. The men remained in custody at the time of reporting.
