Royal Navy member charged over protected information allegations
Royal Navy member Teddy Young appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 8, charged with two offences under the National Security Act 2023 over alleged conduct involving protected information and a foreign power. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on October 16. The charges allege that between November 26, 2024, and May 21, 2025, Young prepared to disclose protected information. A second charge alleges he obtained, copied, recorded or retained such information intending to benefit a foreign power. Prosecutors allege he knew, or ought reasonably to have known, that the conduct could prejudice the safety or interests of the United Kingdom. The allegations have not been tested in court, and Young has not been convicted. Police have not publicly named the foreign power. The charges concern preparation to disclose information and its alleged possession or retention; the supplied charge descriptions do not establish that any information was actually passed on or identify what material was involved. Young, 24, was arrested at his home in Bedfordshire on October 6 and charged on October 7.
