NDLEA reports arrests and drug seizures across Nigeria

Published 11 October 2026

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said it rearrested an 83-year-old woman in Abia State and reported a series of drug seizures and arrests across Nigeria, including a shipment of 354,000 tapentadol tablets intercepted in Lagos. Agency spokesperson Femi Babafemi said Uloma Sunday was arrested at her home in Obingwa Local Government Area on October 7. The NDLEA said officers found methamphetamine and Colorado, a synthetic cannabinoid, concealed around her waist in a wrapper. It said the arrest followed intelligence alleging that she operated a drug joint where criminal suspects gathered and terrorised residents. That allegation has not been independently verified in the supplied reporting. The agency said Sunday and her daughter, Chisom Uchechi, were arrested at the same address in May 2025 and later pleaded guilty to drug offences. They were sentenced to 12 months in prison or a fine of 200,000 naira each, and paid the fines before their release. The NDLEA did not say whether Sunday was charged following her latest arrest. In Lagos, the agency said officers intercepted nine cartons containing 354,000 tapentadol tablets, weighing 307.
