Delhi Police removes 500 protest-related posts, registers FIRs
Delhi Police said Tuesday it had removed about 500 social-media posts and registered more than four FIRs as part of action over content allegedly linked to protests in the capital. The force said it was monitoring online platforms for rumours, misleading claims and material it believed could disturb public order. Police accounts described the FIRs as involving social-media accounts accused of spreading false narratives. Separate cases were also registered over alleged violations during the opposition march on October 12, including breaches of restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Reports did not provide a complete breakdown of which FIRs concerned online posts and which concerned the march. Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Bhatia said posts were removed after police examined content they considered false, based on rumours, artificially created, obscene or capable of disrupting public order. Police said the total of about 500 posts reflected action reported on October 13. On October 12, police sources had reported about 300 posts removed, an earlier count at a different observation time.
