Delhi building collapse kills 6, rescue ongoing

A five-story paying guest accommodation building collapsed in the Satya Niketan area of South West Delhi on Sunday, September 6, 2026, trapping an unknown number of people beneath the rubble and resulting in multiple fatalities. Rescue operations were underway throughout the night and into Monday, September 7, 2026. The collapse occurred around 1:30 p.m. local time at a building known as "Hostel Daze," located near Delhi University's South Campus. The structure housed students and was reportedly converted into a paying guest facility. Emergency services, including the Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), were dispatched to the scene. As of Monday morning, six fatalities had been confirmed, with 11 people rescued from the debris. Officials indicated that numerous individuals, primarily students, were still feared trapped. Rescue teams continued to work through the night, receiving calls from those still buried and attempting to locate survivors. One rescued individual was found deceased during overnight operations. The exact cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
