10 killed, 64 injured in Mexico State festival blast

An explosion involving pyrotechnic materials killed at least 10 people and injured 64 others during a religious festival in Temascalcingo, Mexico State, on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The blast occurred late Saturday night near the Nuestra Señora de la Luz church in the community of Santa Maria Canchesda, a municipality northwest of Mexico City. Hundreds of residents had gathered for a fireworks display as part of traditional festival celebrations when the explosion took place.
