Delhi building collapse kills 5 students

A building collapse in Delhi's Satya Niketan neighborhood on Sunday, September 6, 2026, resulted in the deaths of five Delhi University students and injuries to several others. The incident prompted immediate rescue operations and official inquiries into the cause of the structural failure. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site in the evening to oversee rescue efforts and ensure coordination among agencies. She subsequently ordered a magisterial probe into the collapse. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his distress, stating he had spoken with the Chief Minister, Commissioner of Police, and the Director General of the NDRF to assess the situation. Shah assured that the injured were receiving all necessary medical assistance and prayed for their swift recovery. The Delhi Fire Department received an alert about the collapse at approximately 1:30 PM. Emergency personnel and disaster rescue units were dispatched to the scene to extricate individuals trapped beneath the debris. According to Delhi Police, six people had been rescued and transported to hospitals by Sunday evening, with search and rescue operations continuing.
