Cargo plane overruns runway at Miami Airport, catches fire

A cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, striking multiple vehicles and catching fire, authorities reported. The Boeing 767 cargo aircraft, operated by Amazon Prime Air, had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. Sunday as the plane, identified as Prime Air flight 7598, landed at Miami International Airport. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft overran Runway 30, crossing a perimeter road and NW 67th Avenue before coming to a stop. MiamiDade Fire Rescue reported that more than 60 units responded to the scene, where they found the aircraft engulfed in heavy flames and smoke. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. The plane, which carried cargo rather than passengers, appeared largely intact after coming to rest. Images and video from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing from the aircraft. The runway excursion prompted an immediate response from airport emergency personnel. In the wake of the crash, all runways and taxiways at Miami International Airport were closed, and a ground stop was put in effect.
