Conte Linked With Manchester United Job as Carrick Remains

Published 14 October 2026

Antonio Conte has been linked with the Manchester United managerial position, but the club has not confirmed talks or an agreement, and Michael Carrick remains in charge. Reports published October 12-14 said the former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager was interested in returning to the Premier League and described possible negotiations with United. The reports differ in how firmly they characterize the approach. Daniele Longo, an Italian journalist, said Conte wanted the United job and felt ready for another Premier League challenge. A separate report attributed to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb said United and Conte were in talks and nearing an agreement. That account did not establish that a deal had been completed, and no supplied information confirms an official approach or a decision to replace Carrick. The speculation comes as United face scrutiny over their start to the 2026-27 season. Carrick is still managing the team after a difficult opening stretch. One report said United had six points from their first six league matches and were 12 points behind the league leaders; another said they had one win in six matches and stood 13th.
