Clarkson and Brooklyn Shop Dispute Shopping Encounter

Published 12 October 2026

Kelly Clarkson and Brooklyn shop Art of Play have offered conflicting accounts of a shopping interaction that became a public dispute after the singer criticized the store on social media. The exchange, including what Clarkson asked to buy and how an employee responded, has not been independently established in the accounts provided. Clarkson wrote on X on October 10 that she had visited the store hoping to buy several items. She said an employee appeared to assume she could not afford an item and offered to find something comparable. Clarkson compared the experience to Julia Roberts’s character in Pretty Woman and said the employee had lost a potential sale. Art of Play responded on October 11, saying Clarkson had asked about buying Molly, a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton used in the store’s magic shows. The shop said Molly was permanently attached to a wall and was not for sale. It also said customers were welcome whether they intended to buy something or simply browse. Clarkson disputed that explanation in a follow-up post.
