Man dies after bag is caught in Brooklyn A train doors

A man in his 50s died Monday evening after his bag became caught in the doors of a departing Manhattan-bound A train at Brooklyn’s Utica Avenue station, dragging him along the platform, according to police and investigators. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is investigating how the bag became trapped. Police placed the incident at about 5:48 p.m. on September 29. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities had not released his identity in the reports. Accounts differed on whether he was boarding or leaving the train when the doors closed on the bag; police said that detail remained unclear. A law-enforcement source described station video as showing the man apparently continuing to hold the bag as the train pulled away and dragged him down the platform. According to that source, he struck a wall, fell onto the tracks, and was not hit by the train, which had already left the station.
