Clarkson and Brooklyn Store Dispute Singing Bird Sale

Published 11 October 2026

Kelly Clarkson and Brooklyn store Art of Play have offered conflicting accounts of a shopping exchange involving a singing bird, with Clarkson saying an employee treated her as though she could not afford the merchandise and the store disputing how the conversation unfolded. Clarkson first described the visit in a post on X, saying she had gone to the shop intending to buy several items. She said she felt judged and that an employee offered to find something comparable for her. She named Art of Play and compared the experience to the treatment of Julia Roberts’ character in the 1990 film Pretty Woman. Art of Play responded in an Instagram statement that Clarkson had asked about Molly, a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton used in the store’s magic shows. The business said Molly is permanently attached to a wall and is not for sale. It also said customers are welcome whether they intend to make a purchase or only browse, and expressed hope that it could eventually clear things up with Clarkson. Clarkson later rejected the store’s account.
