Kelly Clarkson Calls for Separate AI Music Charts

Published 2 October 2026

Kelly Clarkson said she supports creative uses of artificial intelligence in music but believes AI artists should appear on separate charts from human performers, arguing that audiences can have an appetite for both without obscuring the distinction between them. Clarkson made the comments during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, where she described AI as something she enjoys exploring artistically. She said the technology could enable people to do things they otherwise might not be able to do, and called it a creative field with potential. Her concern, she said, was AI-generated artists competing directly with human musicians on the same chart. Clarkson did not set out criteria for how a separate chart would distinguish fully AI-generated music from recordings in which artists use AI as a supporting tool. Nor did she specify how chart operators should determine which category a particular song belongs in. Her remarks focused on the principle of keeping AI and human performers distinguishable, rather than on a detailed proposal for implementing separate rankings.
