BMW Reveals 2027 iX4 With Estimated 428-Mile Range
BMW has revealed the 2027 iX4, an all-electric SUV with a coupe-like roofline that the automaker says will deliver up to 428 miles of range in its first U.S. version. The iX4 50 xDrive is rated at 463 horsepower, and BMW’s range estimate is six miles below the figure it gives for the related iX3 50 xDrive. The iX4 shares its underlying platform and key electric powertrain specifications with the iX3, but its sloping roof gives it a lower, more streamlined profile. BMW says the design contributes to a drag coefficient of 0.23, compared with 0.24 for the iX3. The models have the same length, width and wheelbase, while the iX4 is 1.5 inches shorter in height, according to the company. BMW says the iX4 50 xDrive uses a 112.2-kilowatt-hour battery and dual motors. Its maximum DC charging rate is 400 kilowatts, and BMW estimates that a 10-minute charging session can add up to 183 miles of range. A separate report gives the charging estimate as 184 miles. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. The company has not supplied an EPA range estimate for the iX4, and independent road-test results are not yet available.
