BAFTA Plans Separate-Room Video Link for John Davidson

Published 1 October 2026

BAFTA has agreed to let John Davidson watch the November 15 Scotland Awards from a separate room at the Glasgow venue by video link, alongside family and friends, after consulting him and advisers. The ceremony has not yet taken place, and the arrangement remains a plan for how he could participate. In a letter to members dated October 1, BAFTA said Davidson suggested viewing the ceremony from a separate, relaxed space. The organisation said it consulted safeguarding and inclusion experts, as well as Tourettes Action and Tourette Scotland, and carried out a wider risk assessment before agreeing to the arrangement. Davidson, a Tourette syndrome campaigner and executive producer of I Swear, was present at the BAFTA Film Awards in February when he involuntarily shouted a racial slur during an award presentation by Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo. The word was included in the BBC broadcast. Davidson left the auditorium early, according to his later statement, and said he was deeply mortified if anyone believed his tics were intentional or conveyed meaning. The BBC apologized for not removing the slur from its delayed broadcast, according to one account.
