Winkleman barred from wearing jewellery during Traitors selection
Executive producer Sarah Fay said Claudia Winkleman cannot wear jewellery while selecting the Traitors on The Celebrity Traitors because a sound from it could reveal her choices, according to remarks reported at a launch event. The rule applies during the selection, when Winkleman moves around the contestants and taps those chosen as Traitors. Fay said producers were strict about the restriction in case jewellery jangled. The selection is intended to keep the identities of the chosen contestants from being heard by the others, according to the accounts of the format. Winkleman said she also worries that clothing could make noise during the process. She has been told fabric does not make a noise, she said, but remains concerned that some material might rustle. She also described wearing spiky shoes because she is afraid of making noise, and said she stops frequently as she moves around the group. The remarks were reported from an event held ahead of the second series’ launch. The reported jewellery rule and Winkleman’s comments about clothes and shoes are accounts of what the two said, rather than independent confirmation that any sound has affected a selection.
