Baden-Württemberg Records 358 Marriages Involving Minors

Published 13 October 2026

Baden-Württemberg authorities recorded 358 marriages involving a minor from April 2012 onward, according to figures disclosed in response to a parliamentary inquiry by the Alternative for Germany (AfD). Eight cases were formally annulled, and the state government said no annulment proceedings were pending when it answered the inquiry. The records were released in October 2026 and concern marriages involving minors that took place abroad and were referred to the responsible state authority. The government’s figures therefore do not represent every possible child marriage in Baden-Württemberg. The inquiry was submitted by AfD lawmakers Nikolaos Boutakoglou and Emely Knoll. The inquiry response records 358 cases, of which eight were formally annulled. The outcomes of the other cases are not detailed in the shared figures. One account of the inquiry says about 350 files were closed under “other resolutions,” a category that could include a partner’s death, a decision not to seek annulment or a later marriage abroad. The available information does not identify the outcome of each file. Some records involve girls as young as 12.
