Collin Gosselin’s memoir renews abuse allegations

Published 13 October 2026

Collin Gosselin’s memoir has renewed attention to his allegations of abuse during childhood and his estrangement from his family. In the book, In the Shadow of Eight, he says that when he was 11, his mother, Kate Gosselin, restrained his wrists and ankles with zip ties after he tried to leave home, then left him bound in a basement for hours. He also says emergency medical personnel later took him to a hospital. Those details are Collin’s account, not independently established findings. Kate has denied abusing him. In earlier statements, she called the allegations fabrications and later described them as ridiculous. She has said Collin had psychiatric diagnoses and was placed in a facility after an episode involving a weapon. The supplied accounts do not include independent records establishing either account of the disputed events. Collin’s book and recent interviews also revisit his placement in a behavioral-health facility in 2016 and his move to live with his father, Jon Gosselin, in 2018, after Jon obtained custody. Collin says his time away from the family contributed to a long estrangement from six siblings.
