Arsenal rally past Leeds as Guimarães scores winner

Published 10 October 2026

Arsenal came from behind to beat Leeds 2-1 on Saturday, with substitute Bruno Guimarães scoring the winner four minutes after entering in the second half. The victory moved the Premier League champions level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table, before City’s scheduled match at Liverpool on Sunday, October 11. Leeds took the lead in the 55th minute when James Justin finished after Gabriel Gudmundsson sent the ball across the penalty area. Riccardo Calafiori equalised seven minutes later, turning in a close-range finish after Ben White headed a cross back into the area. Arsenal completed the comeback in the 70th minute. After a quickly taken free kick, Declan Rice set up Guimarães, who struck a low shot into the bottom-left corner. The goal was Guimarães’s second for Arsenal and came on his home debut, following his move from Newcastle in the offseason. Manager Mikel Arteta said Guimarães was not yet in his best condition because he had not had a preseason, but added that he could improve further. The Brazilian midfielder had also scored as a substitute against Sunderland, according to match reports.
