Arsenal rally to beat Leeds and draw level with Man City
Arsenal came from behind to beat Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on October 10, moving level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. James Justin put Leeds ahead after the break, but Riccardo Calafiori equalised and substitute Bruno Guimaraes scored the winner. The result lifted Arsenal to 15 points, matching City’s total. Arsenal were behind City on goal difference, and City had a game in hand before their scheduled match against Liverpool on Sunday, October 11. The standings could therefore change after that fixture. Leeds took the lead in the 55th minute when Justin finished a move down the left, converting Gabriel Gudmundsson’s cross. Arsenal had struggled to create clear chances in the first half and were again trailing after the break. Calafiori brought the home side level in the 62nd minute. Ben White headed a cross back across goal, and the defender finished from close range. Guimaraes then completed the turnaround in the 70th minute, scoring from the edge of the area after coming on as a substitute. Arsenal held on to claim the three points. The win was a response to Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat by Brighton before the international break.
