Liverpool await Jacquet assessment before Manchester City match

Published 6 October 2026

Liverpool are awaiting an assessment of Jeremy Jacquet after the defender missed France’s 4-1 Nations League win over Belgium with a strain to his left hamstring, leaving his availability for the Premier League match against Manchester City unresolved. The French Football Federation said Jacquet had the hamstring strain. France coach Zinedine Zidane later described the Liverpool player as slightly injured while explaining why he had not started. Neither account established how long Jacquet might be out or whether he will be fit for Sunday’s match at Anfield. Liverpool are expected to assess the centre-back after his return from international duty. The club has not provided a confirmed update on his condition or match status in the reports available. Jacquet has featured in all seven of Liverpool’s matches this season, starting six, and has partnered Virgil van Dijk in central defence. If Jacquet is unavailable, Ronald Araújo and Joe Gomez are identified as possible alternatives alongside Van Dijk. The reports do not confirm which player Liverpool would select. Jacquet’s injury is among several fitness concerns for Liverpool ahead of the City fixture.
