Apple says eligible CarPlay apps will work on HomeView
Apple says eligible CarPlay audio and video apps will work on its HomeView smart display without developers making HomeView-specific changes, opening a potential route for third-party media services despite the device having no App Store. An updated CarPlay Developer Guide says apps with the required CarPlay audio or video entitlements can appear on HomeView. The documentation does not mean that every app available on an iPhone will work on the display: developers must support the relevant CarPlay features and have the specified entitlements. HomeView will rely on apps available through CarPlay rather than direct downloads. Apple’s documentation says compatible apps can work without modification, while reporting on the device describes third-party apps appearing through a connected iPhone or iPad. Apple has not confirmed that every CarPlay app category, including navigation and parking, will be supported. The arrangement could make HomeView an incentive for video services to build CarPlay versions. CarPlay video apps were introduced in iOS 27, but the reported requirement for automakers to support the feature has limited the usefulness of developing them.
