Apple's First Foldable iPhone Duo Set for Launch

Published 7 September 2026

Apple is poised to enter the foldable smartphone market with the anticipated unveiling of its first foldable iPhone at the company's "Surprise and Shine" event on September 9, 2026. Reports suggest the device will be named the iPhone Duo, a departure from earlier speculation that favored names like iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. This launch marks Apple's significant entry into a category where competitors like Samsung and Google have already established products. The iPhone Duo is expected to feature a book-style design, unfolding to reveal a larger internal display, estimated to be around 7.8 inches, complemented by a 5.5-inch external screen. This form factor is designed for enhanced multitasking and media consumption. Leaks indicate the device will incorporate Apple's new A20 Pro chip and C2 modem, dual 48-megapixel rear cameras, and a 12-megapixel front camera. A notable feature may be support for the Apple Pencil stylus, a first for an iPhone, which could significantly enhance productivity for tasks like drawing and document editing. The device is also expected to utilize Touch ID integrated into the power button, rather than Face ID, to accommodate its slim profile.
