Alan Cumming Says He Does Not Fully Understand Doomsday Plot

Alan Cumming said he does not fully understand the plot of Avengers: Doomsday, recounting that while filming a scene he was given a brief explanation involving giant robots and asked instead to focus on where to point his character. The actor made the remarks in a SiriusXM interview, as he prepares to reprise his role as Nightcrawler in the upcoming film. Cumming described the robot explanation as an example of how little context he had for at least some of his work. He said the scene was one of the rare moments filmed on a backlot rather than in front of a blue screen. He joked that he was content to follow direction on what to do in the shot, adding that he knew he was there to run around. His comments describe his own understanding of the material; they do not establish what screenplay or other information he received for the production as a whole. He also recounted meeting Florence Pugh at the Emmys and realizing they had performed scenes involving each other’s body doubles. Pugh, who plays Yelena Belova, told him that her double had acted opposite Cumming’s double, he said.
