ACC says Naqvi will miss Asian Games cricket medal day

Published 2 October 2026

Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi will miss the Asian Games cricket medal day on October 3, including the men’s gold-medal match between India and Pakistan, the council announced. The ACC and Naqvi attributed his absence to prior commitments, and the council said he had sent best wishes to all four teams competing for medals. The India-Pakistan final is scheduled to be played in Nisshin, Japan. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are set to contest the bronze medal. The ACC statement covered both matches and did not name the people who will present the medals at the ceremony. Naqvi, who also chairs the Pakistan Cricket Board, said his commitments would keep him away from Nagoya. The ACC’s announcement and his message offered prior commitments as the reason for his absence. Reports have also connected the question of his attendance to earlier trophy-presentation disputes involving Indian teams, but the available statements do not establish that those events prompted his decision. Those disputes followed the 2025 men’s Asia Cup final and the 2026 women’s Asia Cup final. Reports say Indian teams declined to accept their trophies from Naqvi at the presentations.
