India's Quimcy Dsouza reaches teqball semifinals at 2026 Asian Games

Indian teqball player Quimcy Dsouza has secured a place in the women's singles semifinals at the 2026 Asian Games, guaranteeing India a medal in the sport's debut as a medal event. Dsouza, ranked world No. 24, won both her Group A matches on September 18 at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center to advance directly to the last four. In her opening match, Dsouza staged a comeback against top seed and host nation player Yuina Sakamoto of Japan. After losing the first set 10-12, she rallied to win the next two sets 12-11 and 13-11, securing a 2-1 victory. She followed this with a more straightforward 2-0 win over Cambodia's Koemyean Dy, taking the sets 12-9 and 12-7. The two victories placed Dsouza at the top of her group, earning her a direct spot in the semifinals. She is scheduled to face Indonesia's Ima Sumaya on September 19. The result of this match will determine whether Dsouza competes for the gold medal or the bronze medal. Teqball, which originated in Hungary, combines elements of football and table tennis. Players use any part of their body except their hands and arms to return a ball over a curved table.
