Zelenskyy Reports Strikes After Trump’s Energy Ceasefire Announcement

Published 11 October 2026

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on October 11 that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate halt to attacks on energy infrastructure, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian strikes continued afterward and that Kyiv had not been part of a confirmed agreement. Zelenskyy said Russian forces struck energy facilities in Kyiv and the Kharkiv region after Trump’s announcement. In Kharkiv, Ukrainian officials said the CHP5 thermal power plant was hit at least twice and caught fire. Zelenskyy also reported an attack on a power plant in Kyiv, which he said caused electricity outages in several districts. The supplied accounts do not independently verify the reported damage. Trump announced the ceasefire on social media, saying it would take effect immediately and that both parties had agreed. Zelenskyy said Ukraine had been surprised by the announcement and was unaware of a concluded agreement. He said Ukraine was willing to stop strikes on Russian energy facilities if Russia did the same. The statements leave the status of the proposed truce unresolved.
