YouTube Music Begins Labeling AI-Generated Tracks

Published 14 October 2026

YouTube Music began rolling out labels on October 14 for tracks it identifies as having been created primarily with generative artificial intelligence, placing the disclosure on the player while a song is playing. Tapping the label opens additional information about the track’s use of AI, according to YouTube’s announcement. The labels are intended for music in which generative AI plays a significant role, including cases where a model created the composition and vocals. The rollout does not label every track made with any AI tool: YouTube’s stated standard focuses on music created primarily using generative AI. YouTube says it will identify qualifying tracks using its own detection tools and by working with music partners. The company has not provided data showing how accurately those tools identify such music, so it remains unclear how consistently qualifying tracks will receive a label or how often tracks might be missed or mislabeled. YouTube says the labels will also come to its main app, but it has not specified when.
