Yandex Shuts Vladimir Data Centre After Drone Attack
Yandex said Sunday that a drone attack damaged its data centre in Vladimir, forcing the company to suspend operations and leaving several services unavailable. The company reported no injuries and said emergency services were at the site as it assessed the damage. The facility is in the city of Vladimir, east of Moscow. In a service alert, Yandex said operations had been completely halted and advised users to activate disaster-recovery plans. It described its remaining resource configuration as unstable and warned that communications with technical support could also be disrupted while teams worked to restore systems. Yandex did not provide a detailed account of the damage or identify who carried out the attack. Reports cited by one account described disruptions to more than 80 services and cloud components, but that figure was not confirmed by the company. Another report said users in several countries had trouble accessing taxi-ordering and banking services, based on user reports. The Vladimir incident followed two reported attacks on Yandex data centres earlier in the week.
