Bitget Reopens Bitcoin Withdrawals After $388 Million Attack

Bitget said it reopened Bitcoin withdrawals on the Bitcoin and BSC networks on September 28, four days after suspending withdrawals following an attack the exchange estimates caused about $387.5 million to $388 million in losses. By 0900 UTC, it had processed 9,585 withdrawals totaling approximately 4,098 BTC, according to the company. The exchange said it is restoring other withdrawals and services in stages, with each asset or network subject to security checks. ETH withdrawals were scheduled to resume on September 29, USDT on September 30, and withdrawals for remaining assets, fiat services and peer-to-peer transactions on October 2. Those dates were announced as a schedule; the reports did not confirm that the later services had reopened. Bitget attributed the September 24 incident to a vulnerability in a third-party security product. The company said attackers used the flaw to obtain internal credentials and issue fraudulent withdrawal commands through its wallet system, bypassing risk controls. Bitget said its private keys and cold wallets were not compromised and that customer balances remained intact.
