Xbox Cloud Gaming Monthly Limits Announced for November

Published 4 September 2026

Microsoft is introducing monthly time limits for Xbox Cloud Gaming, ending the unlimited streaming previously included with all Game Pass subscriptions. The change, announced on September 3, 2026, will take effect in November and will cap playtime based on a subscriber's tier. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will receive 15 hours per month, Premium subscribers will get 10 hours, and Essential subscribers will be limited to 5 hours. Once the allotted time is used, players will need to purchase additional hours through the Xbox Store to continue streaming. The company stated that the new model is a response to the growing cost of maintaining cloud gaming infrastructure as more users stream games for longer periods. "We're introducing this model because the cost of providing cloud gaming grows as more people use it and play for longer," Microsoft explained in a blog post. "Moving to monthly limits allows us to keep offering the service while continuing to invest in its reliability and performance. We understand that for some players the practical result is a higher cost.
