Woman charged with murder after wrong-way SUV crash kills 2 on LA bus

A 36-year-old woman has been charged with murder after driving her SUV the wrong way and crashing into a Los Angeles Metro bus, killing two passengers. The collision, which occurred on September 15, also led to a separate tragedy when a news helicopter covering the scene crashed, claiming three more lives. Bailee Lynn Rios was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on September 17 with two counts of second-degree murder, reckless driving, and driving under the influence. The charges stem from the crash that killed bus passengers Daniel Castillo, 46, and Gage Weida, 31. Prosecutors allege Rios was under the influence of drugs and had narcotics in her vehicle at the time. The incident began shortly before 5 p.m. on September 15 in Chatsworth. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Rios was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition southbound in the northbound lanes of De Soto Avenue. The SUV ran a red light at the intersection with Nordhoff Street, narrowly missed another vehicle, and then struck an eastbound Metro Line 166 bus. The impact was severe, fully ejecting one passenger and partially ejecting another. Six other people were hospitalized with injuries.
