Waymo Closes First Debt Deal, a $5 Billion Loan
Waymo said Thursday it closed a $5 billion loan, its first debt financing, as the robotaxi company seeks capital to expand its operations in the United States and abroad. The company said the proceeds would provide financial flexibility and support its growth as a commercial business. The financing was led by PIMCO, Blackstone and Sixth Street, which took lead syndicated roles. Other named lenders include Capital Group, Loomis Sayles, T. Rowe Price, Apollo, Blue Owl, Diameter Capital Partners, Franklin Templeton, Fidelity Management & Research Company, HPS Investment Partners and Oaktree. Goldman Sachs served as sole lead bookrunner. Waymo said the funds would help strengthen its balance sheet and allow it to pursue commercial opportunities. Its stated expansion plans include growth in the United States and internationally. The loan complements a $16 billion equity investment Waymo closed earlier in 2026, according to the company. Waymo was reported to have more than 500,000 paid rides per week across 14 U.S. cities in early September. The company’s target is 1 million weekly rides across 20 cities worldwide by the end of 2026. Waymo also operates in 15 U.S.
