One dead, several injured in Six Flags coaster incident

Published 12 October 2026

One person died and several others were injured Monday afternoon in an incident involving the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, Cobb County police said. Detectives with the department’s major crimes unit are investigating. Police have not said how the person died or what caused the other injuries. The incident happened October 12 at the park in Austell, Georgia. Witnesses told local media they saw a man fall from the coaster and strike parts of the ride. Their accounts have not established how or why he fell, and investigators have not announced a cause. Riders aboard the stopped coaster were evacuated, with aerial footage showing workers helping them descend from the ride. Reports describe the Goliath as stopped with riders still aboard; one account said it had stopped on an incline. The supplied information does not establish whether the ride’s stoppage was connected to the fatal incident. Police said several people were injured. One report gave a figure of four, but that number was not confirmed across the reporting, and officials have not described the circumstances of those injuries.
