Georgia-Alabama Game Remains Scheduled as Isaias Approaches
The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide were still scheduled to play Saturday night in Tuscaloosa as Hurricane Isaias approached the Gulf Coast, while President Donald Trump said he would not attend because emergency responders should focus on the storm. The game was set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama Athletics said Wednesday it was monitoring the weather and planned to hold the matchup as scheduled. As of Friday, no change to the game’s time or location had been announced. Georgia’s travel plans also remained unchanged, according to Leland Barrow, the team’s associate sports communications director. Trump said in a social-media post Friday that he would miss the game so first responders and law enforcement would not have to consider the president’s safety or presence. He added that he hoped the game would go on despite the weather. He had been scheduled to attend. Preparations reflected concerns about wind and rain. Alabama shortened tailgating hours and barred tents, while ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast moved indoors.
