Isaias Prompts College Sports Schedule Changes
Hurricane Isaias prompted schedule changes across college sports, including the cancellation of one football game, while the University of Alabama and the Southeastern Conference continued to plan for Georgia-Alabama to begin Saturday evening as scheduled. West Florida canceled its game against Northeastern State, and the team was not expected to make it up, according to a report published Friday. Other reported football adjustments included moving Florida A&M-Alabama State up 24 hours and changing kickoff times for several games. The listed changes included earlier starts for Davidson-Presbyterian and East Tennessee State-The Citadel, while Southern-Prairie View A&M was moved back an hour. Rice-East Carolina was also moved three hours earlier. The schedule changes came as forecasts called for Isaias to make landfall along the northern Gulf Coast late Friday or early Saturday and bring heavy rain across parts of the Southeast. Reports described differing expected conditions near Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where Georgia is scheduled to play Alabama at 6:30 p.m. local time Saturday.
