Universal Sets The Exorcist: Martyrs for March 2027

Published 7 October 2026

Universal has titled Mike Flanagan’s next Exorcist film The Exorcist: Martyrs and scheduled its theatrical release for March 12, 2027. The studio’s announcement also said the first trailer is expected Friday, October 9, 2026. Scarlett Johansson stars as Julie Miller, an NYPD homicide detective and single mother whose investigation centers on serial killer Father Sunday, played by John Leguizamo. Details about the characters and plot have been described by Flanagan in an interview accompanying the film’s first-look images. In that account, Miller apprehends Father Sunday and is present at his execution, but the killings continue afterward. The case involves priests played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Laurence Fishburne. Ejiofor plays Father William, a former prison chaplain connected to the execution; Fishburne plays another priest whose knowledge of ancient rituals brings him into the investigation. Sasha Calle plays fellow detective Gina Restrepo, Diane Lane plays Miller’s mother, and Jacobi Jupe plays her son, Max.
