Jessica Biel Joins Searchlight’s Playmates

Jessica Biel has joined Searchlight Pictures’ Playmates, playing a fictional former Playboy Playmate who is married to Hugh Hefner in the film, according to reports about the casting. Bill Pullman is set to portray Hefner, with Lily-Rose Depp and Indiana Elle among the previously announced cast. The character Biel plays is not based on any of Hefner’s real-life wives. Written and directed by Lorraine Nicholson, Playmates is described as a coming-of-age story set around the Playboy Mansion. Its reported logline follows Elle, a 13-year-old who considers the mansion her second home, and Anna, one of seven hopefuls seeking to become Playmate of the Month. The two form an unlikely friendship and try to help one another pursue their ambitions: Anna wants a magazine cover, while Elle hopes to find a boy. The film marks Nicholson’s feature writing and directing debut. Reports say its story is inspired by her experiences growing up around the mansion. Nicholson is the daughter of actor Jack Nicholson and grew up in Los Angeles; the film’s stated premise draws on that setting while centering on the fictional friendship between Elle and Anna.
