Ukraine Says It Was Not Informed of Trump’s Energy Pause Claim
U.S. President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure, but Ukraine said it was not informed before he announced the pause, and both sides reported continued strikes. Trump made the claim on Monday, October 12, a day after announcing the purported ceasefire. When asked about reports of Russian attacks, he said he would need to examine them and added that there had been violations on both sides. The supplied accounts do not establish that Moscow and Kyiv reached a bilateral agreement or set terms for a pause. Ukraine’s Embassy spokeswoman Halyna Yusypiuk said Ukraine had not been informed beforehand. She said its negotiating team travelled to Miami to discuss an energy ceasefire as a possible step. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine supported a pause and was prepared to stop striking Russian energy infrastructure, while expecting Russia to do the same. Zelenskyy reported that Russian forces had attacked six Ukrainian energy facilities in one day and said 33 people were wounded across the country.
