U.S. strike in Caribbean kills four, military says

Published 5 October 2026

U.S. Southern Command said it struck a go-fast vessel in the Caribbean Sea on Sunday, October 4, killing four people in the latest reported attack in the administration’s campaign against suspected drug-trafficking boats. The command said intelligence showed the vessel was actively involved in narcotrafficking, but the military did not publicly provide evidence supporting that allegation. Southern Command described the four people killed as narcoterrorists. A video shared by the military showed what appeared to be an explosion destroying a moving boat, which the military identified as a go-fast vessel. The reports did not identify those killed or provide details about their individual circumstances. The strike is part of a U.S. campaign against vessels in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific that the administration says are linked to drug trafficking. Sources gave differing cumulative figures for deaths and strikes across the campaign, with totals ranging from more than 220 to 238 people killed. The figures were reported with different dates and counting methods, so they do not establish a single consistent total. The latest strike itself was reported as killing four.
