Two Manning interceptions help Oklahoma beat Texas 27-24

Published 13 October 2026

Texas lost 27-24 to Oklahoma after quarterback Arch Manning threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter, including a 42-yard pick-six and a late turnover that set up the winning field goal as time expired. Tate Sandell made the 47-yard kick, handing the Longhorns their first loss of the season after they entered the game ranked No. 1 and unbeaten. Manning completed 19 of 31 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns, but his two interceptions proved pivotal. Oklahoma safety Peyton Bowen returned the first interception 42 yards for a touchdown, giving the Sooners a 24-17 lead in the fourth quarter. Manning later led a touchdown drive that tied the score at 24. With 19 seconds remaining, Oklahoma’s Courtland Guillory intercepted Manning’s pass and the Sooners took possession at their own 39-yard line. They advanced into position for Sandell’s field goal, which decided the game. The loss drew criticism from analysts who focused on Manning’s decision-making and consistency. Paul Finebaum described his performance as “inexcusable” and “disgraceful,” while also saying Manning can look exceptional when playing well.
