Oklahoma stuns No. 1 Texas 27-24 on final kick

Published 11 October 2026

Oklahoma rallied from a 17-7 halftime deficit to beat previously unbeaten No. 1 Texas 27-24 in the Red River Rivalry, sealing the upset with a field goal as time expired in Dallas on Saturday, October 10. The Sooners entered the game 2-2 and unranked, while Texas was 4-0 and ranked first nationally. The loss ended Texas’s unbeaten start. Oklahoma’s comeback turned on two fourth-quarter interceptions by Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning, including one returned for a touchdown. Oklahoma’s first interception of Manning came with 10:07 remaining. Peyton Bowen returned it 42 yards for a touchdown, giving the Sooners a 24-17 lead. Texas answered with a touchdown to tie the game at 24, then forced Oklahoma to punt. Texas moved into position to take the lead, but missed a 52-yard field-goal attempt with 1:54 left. After Oklahoma also punted, the Longhorns had another chance to win. Manning’s second interception ended that scoring opportunity, and Oklahoma took possession for its final drive. The Sooners moved into field-goal range, and Tate Sandell made a 47-yard kick as time expired.
