Two arrested after fatal Delhi Metro seat dispute
A 48-year-old man died after an altercation over a seat reserved for senior citizens at the Supreme Court Metro station in Delhi, and police arrested two men in connection with his death. The incident occurred on October 8 inside a Metro train. Police identified the deceased as Pawan Sharma and the accused as Sanjay Pratap Singh and his son, Siddharth Singh. The case was registered on October 9 following a complaint by Sharma’s mother, Durga Sharma, and the investigation is ongoing. According to Durga Sharma’s complaint, she and her son were seated in seats reserved for senior citizens when the two men boarded and asked them to vacate. Pawan Sharma objected to the way they addressed them but agreed to stand, the complaint says. It alleges that the older man then grabbed him by the collar and slapped him, while the younger man caught him by the neck and repeatedly punched him in the chest. The complaint further alleges that when Durga Sharma tried to intervene, the older man held her hands and prevented her from stopping the attack. Pawan Sharma then collapsed and became unconscious, according to the complaint.
