Published 6 October 2026

Twin healthcare professionals Hadiya Usman and Aidah Usman died two days apart in Yobe State, according to reports that gave their dates of death as October 2 and October 4, respectively. Hadiya was a medical doctor and Aidah was a Doctor of Pharmacy. The specific medical circumstances of their deaths have not been independently established. The sisters were daughters of Hadiza Usman, who leads the Federal Medical Centre in Nguru, where Hadiya worked. Their deaths were reported by family and colleagues as a profound loss to those close to them and to the healthcare community. Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni sent condolences to the family, according to a statement attributed to his communications official, Yusuf Ali. Buni also prayed for the sisters and for strength for their mother and other relatives. The statement said he had earlier sent a delegation to Nguru to convey his condolences. The delegation was led jointly by the state commissioners for basic and secondary education and for health. A family member, Ibrahim Auwal, said the sisters had both been battling sickle cell disease.
